Podiatrists are university educated health professionals who are highly skilled in the area of the lower limb. Podiatrists can assess, diagnose and treat conditions of the foot, ankle, lower limb and related structures of the leg.

Podiatrists treat a range of different conditions either in a private practice or hospital settings. They can treat children, adults, the elderly and those with chronic diseases such as diabetes and arthritis. Often podiatrists see patients with mobility issues, ingrown nails, heel pain, flat feet or bunions.

Our practices at Hills Podiatry Centre also treat individuals who have a specific sports interest. We can assess, diagnose and treat patients with either acute or chronic sporting injuries.

We recommend seeing a podiatrist if you:

  • Are experiencing leg or foot pain
  • Work long hours and stand for long periods of time
  • Have deformed nails or skin problems
  • Have excessively smelly or sweaty feet
  • Suffer from a chronic health condition such as diabetes or arthritis
  • Find yourself tripping, falling or stumbling a lot
  • Always find yourself consciously worrying about how your feet look or feel
  • Notice your child is walking unusually, complaining of leg pain, or tripping frequently
  • Can’t reach or see your feet or find it difficult to cut your own nails

Short answer, no. You do not need a referral to see a podiatrist. Some patients will have been referred by their doctor or another health professional however if you call us today you will not be turned away or have to pay extra because you were not referred by someone.

Some people with chronic health issues are eligible to have their consultations partially refunded by Medicare through the Medicare GP Management Plan/Team Care Arrangement (formerly known as Medicare Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) program). If you think you may be eligible for a GPMP/TCA please talk with your GP for a referral to Hills Podiatry Centre. Clients who are not eligible for a GPMP/TCA may be entitled to a partial rebate through their Private Health Cover.

We accept all in-date GPMP/TCA and DVA referrals addressed to Hills Podiatry Centre (or specific Podiatrist employed at Hills Podiatry Centre). If you have a Medicare referral form from your doctor known as a GP Management Plan/Team Care Arrangement (previously known as an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan), Medicare may rebate you a portion of your consultation fee. The current Medicare rebate amount is currently $55.10. Please note that the full consultation fee of $78.00 is payable at the time of service then the Medicare rebate will be processed straight into you nominated account.

We have a rebate machine at our clinics, which means you do not have to travel to Medicare or fill out a form for your rebate. If you have a GPMP/TCA you will receive the rebate on the spot the same day as your service.

If you have Private Health Insurance and you have Extras cover including Podiatry, a part of your consultation fee will be covered by your insurer. The gap fee will vary depending on your level of cover. Please contact your Private Health Insurance provider to check if you are covered for Podiatry services.

No, Hills Podiatry is not a registered NDIS/NDIA provider. If you are a self-managed NDIS/NDIA client you may be able to claim you Podiatric services and/or medical devices prescribed by a Podiatrist through your allocated funding. We can provide a receipt of payment for your treatment which you may be able to use to claim with. We recommended you speak to your NDIS/NDIA advisor regarding this.

We have a strict policy that all services are paid for in full on the day of the appointment. We will provide you with a receipt which you may submit to your private care package providers for reimbursement.

Yes, we accept all DVA Gold Card holders with an in-date referral from their GP. DVA White Card holders may also be eligible if their specified service-related injury or condition relates to the feet and/or lower limbs. Eligible DVA clients are free of charge with an in-date referral from their GP.
